You were a designerís dream on your wedding, what with your joras being designed by Mehdi, Omar Sayeed and HSY. Did you leave your ensembles to their choice or was there some input from you as well?
Actually all three made their own creations. My only input was in terms of the colour I wanted. They put their hearts, mind and love into each outfit. I would not change a single thing about any of them. They were stunning and I couldnít wait to wear them.
Youíre a LUMS graduate. How was that experience?
I was enrolled in the social sciences programme and it was excellent in terms of exposure, faculty and student body. I was actually in college in the States to begin with and then transferred to LUMS. It was a breath of fresh air; I hadnít expected to get the same kind of standards as in the USA, but everything here exceeded my expectations.
Why go into modelling armed with a BSc honours in social science?
I started modelling while I was at LUMS. I found it interesting and was really attracted to the field. It comes as a surprise to many people that a well educated person would choose modelling as a profession, but I think its about we let go of the outdated stereotype that modelling is for bimbos. Some of the smartest people I have met have been from this field.
How supportive was your family of your career choice?
My mother supported me from the word go. It took some time for my dad to come around. He was initially opposed to the idea, which is hardly surprising considering the general societal attitude towards the profession. But now he supports me one hundred percent, because he has faith in me.
As a model, where do you draw the line?
I have always followed guidelines that would be acceptable in my own household Ė which is a typical Pakistani household. I would never do something that would embarrass me or my family. I have tried to follow societal norms as much as I can.
Why does a pretty girl like you restrict herself when it comes to modelling with photographers other than Ather Shahzad?
Itís not a hard and fast decision that I have made not to work with other photographers. Iím currently working with two of the best people in the country and being given assignments no one can match in quality or quantity. Why, then, would I choose a second rate option? Tell me, would you buy a cheap Thai imitation when you have the chance to get your hands on a Louis Vuitton original?
Youíre known to give designers a tough time. Is Danyaal in for some of the same?
I only give people a tough time if they give me a tough time. I canít stand unreasonable and illogical people. So if Danyaal is ever any of those thingsÖ!!
When will we hear the pitter patter of tiny feet?
I think itís too soon for that question!
What are your future plans, Mrs. Danyaal?
Iím taking things really slowly at the moment. Iím enjoying settling into my new house and getting used to a new routine. I plan to just go with the flow.
