Kareena Kapoor was born on September 21, 1980. She is informally
called Bebo. She is a popular Indian actress appearing as an eminent figure in
Indian Cinema. She has proudly received five prestigious Filmfare awards. She
has invariably acted in all type of films from romantic dramas to publicized
films. Her both parents Randhir and Babita, her sister Karisma Kapoor and her
uncle Rishi Kapoor were great actors. She is granddaughter of actor and director
Raj Kapoor and great-granddaughter of the legendary Prithviraj Kapoor. She made
her first debut in Refugee in 2000.
Her multi-starrer film Khabie Khushi Khabie Gham in 2001 became blockbuster
and highest grossing film in overseas too. She played a role of sex worker in
Chameli in 2004 which proved to be a turning point of her film career. She got
critical acclaims for her films in Dev and Omkara in the years 2004 and 2006 respectively.
In 2007, Kareena Kapoor received her first Filmfare Award for Best Actress
for her superb performance in Jab We Met which was a romantic comedy. She
played the female lead role in Kurbaan in 2009. In the same year, 3 idiots
became highest grossing film of all-time in Bollywood. She has undoubtedly
established herself as a leading actress in Indian cinema and in addition she
launched her own clothing line in collaboration with the brand ambassador of
retail chain namely Globus.
Kareena Kapoor attended Jamnabai Narsee School in Mumbai before moving to
Welham Girls Boarding School in Dehradun, Uttarkhand. She received first class
honors in all her subjects except mathematics. After her graduation from same
school she studied commerce for two years in Mithibai College, Vile Parle,
Mumbai. She then did three months summer course in microcomputers at Harvard
University, U.S.A. later, she developed interest in law and persuaded her
studies in Government Law College in Churchgate, Mumbai. After one year of her
law studies she felt her real inclination was towards becoming an actress.
Therefore, she took training in an acting institute in Andheri which was
graciously mentored by Kishore Namit Kapoor who is the member of Film and
Television Institute of India.
Her first debut Refugee was a super hit and fifth highest grossing film in
India in 2000. Her performance was truly acclaimed by critics and Taran Adarsh
of Bollywood Hungama wrote that she has a magnetic personality and makes viewers
to fall in love with her instantly. She earned Filmfare Award for Best Female
Debut for the same film.
In 2001, she acted in Mujhe Kucch Kehna Hai which became highest earning film
of the year. A review in The Hindu noted that she really shined in the movie
with the grace of seasoned sizzler. Then she played in Yaadein which
unfortunately did not do well at box-office. Then she appeared in Ajnabee which
was marked as a moderate box office in India. Later she had a magnificent role
in Asoka. This film was invariably screened not only across United Kingdom but
also North America. The same film was selected for screening in both Venice Film
Festival and 2001 Toronto International Film Festival.
However, during 2002 and 2003 though she had 6 six releases; Mushy Dosti
Karoge!, Jeans Sirf Merre Liye, Talaash, The Hunt Begins, Khushi, Main Prem Ki
Diwani Hoon but all were commercially unsuccessful. Thus, these years were a
real setback in her career.
Then in 2004 she was again fortified with critic’s acclaims with her
commercial success Chameli which was a more serious based film. Then she did the
bi-lingual project Yuva which was enigmatic. Later she acted in critically
acclaimed film named Dev which earned her the Filmfare Critics Award for Best
Performance. She had Fida and Hulchul in which she had fabulous roles. In 2006
she played in 36 China Town and Chup Chup Ke which did quite well. In the same
year, Omkara, was highly premiered in the 2006 Cannes Film Festival and Cairo
International Film Festival. With this film she bagged her fourth Filmfare award
and first Star Screen Award.
Jab We Met in 2007 became one of the year’s most successful film. It bagged
her several awards in addition to Filmfare Award for Best Actress and second
Star Screen Award for Best Actress. In 2009, she played in Kambakkht Ishq which
was the first Indian film that was shot in Universal Studios Hollywood,
California. She then starred in Main Aurr Mrs. Khanna which was not successful
