Britney Spears is the proverbial ‘Pop Diva’ to many American teens who has managed to remain in the hearts of music lovers throughout her career.
The topsy-turvy life of Britney Spears has seen it all. Right from her record breaking album sales to end number of break ups. She is the quintessential darling of the American pop culture popularly known as Britney Jean Spears. Starting out at a very early age of just 18 years, Britney developed into a child prodigy after she won hearts world over with her world hit debut album “Baby One More Time”, in the year 1998. Although Britney had the talent to sing and dance at a very early age, many believe she was quite lucky to be signed up Jive Records (parent company of Sony Music Entertainment) at such a tender age. The gamble certainly paid off for Jive as her very debut album recorded Platinum status in 6 diverse countries that included US. Being a former Mickey Mouse Club member, an excellent gymnast and a talent show contestant, she was certainly on the right scheme of things from a very early stage.
Being the second child of Lynne Irene and James Parnell Spear, Britney found a lot of support from her parents. With able support on hand, she won numerous children's talent shows and state-level competitions and was incredibly ambitious from the very beginning.
A year later she was standing on the threshold of mega success as her maiden album ‘Baby One More Time’ brought her as many as 4 individual awards that included, Best Pop, Best Female, Best Song and Best Breakthrough songs at the 1999 MTV Europe Awards. By the time 2000 came around, Britney had released her follow up album “Oops!... I Did It Again”, which too recorded Platinum album sales. With a fan flowing that stretched into millions right across the globe, Britney embarked on her maiden Global tour later that year.
Back at home, the U.S. Billboard’s kept Britney’s tune alive with the album topping charts week after week. Incidentally, the album sold an unprecedented 10 million copies worldwide and even topped charts in 15 different countries. Britney’s world domination ensured she had virtually become the America’s darling to the world.
Following her huge success, Britney found herself a new partner in the shape of Justin Timberlake whom she had earlier met as a Mickey Mouse Club member. While Justin was still learning his trades with boy band N Sync, his partner Spears was the centre of attraction of their relationship.
With fame came loads of cash. Britney soon brought herself a $3 million home in Los Angeles home, followed that up with a $3.5 million crib in the famous Hollywood Hills. Life was certainly rosy at this point of time. By the time she released her 3rd album “Britney”, she was already in the thick of controversy after her off screen romance with Justin Timberlake was entering trouble waters.
In the year 2002, Britney finally split with Justin as she decided to stepped foot into Hollywood through Crossroads. However, the venture didn’t go as planned as the movie failed to impress everyone and was deemed a massive failure. By the time 2003 came by, Britney was back to her usual ways with her 4th album “In the Zone”. Although ‘In the Zone’ did quite well, but record sales had fallen since her debut album. However, all that changed with 6th album “Circus” that recorded Platinum status in 4 countries besides, topping charts in 20 different countries worldwide. Between all that successes, Britney married her childhood friend Jason Allen Alexander and then divorced him 2 days later sparking huge controversy.
Incidentally, with the success of Circus, Britney catapulted into the Guinness Book of World Records as she became the only female artist in history to have 5 ‘number 1’ albums. Amidst all the success and hula about Britney as a solo performer, she led a miserable off screen life and the problem got even compounded with paparazzi’s continuously highlighting Britney’s every wrong doings to the entire world.
After her recent break up with Kevin Federline, Britney has certainly matured as a person following quite a few rehabilitation programs. She continues to work on her illustrious Pop career that has seen her jump to cult status with just her debut album. She recently released her 7th studio album titled “Femme Fatale” on March 25th 2011. With 6 Platinum albums already to her name and numerous awards up her kitty, there is no disputing that Britney still is the darling to the avid Pop fan across the globe.
