Thanks to some ingenious developer GSM 850MHz band is now unlocked for use on the HTC top-of-the-shelf Touch Diamond. Obviously hardware support for that 850MHz band has already been implemented in the device but has been put dormant.
Today should be a happy day for all our overseas Diamond-loving friends. By default the Touch Diamond is only tri-band with a North American version still pending. Well, officially - it's a done deal since an unofficial Radio ROM (the software part of any PocketPC that's in charge of wireless communications) is now available for download, which turns the hot Diamond into an even hotter gem.
Yeah, we also canít figure out why HTC crippled their own device but hey Ė we couldnít get their point in the video drivers issues in their previous generation of devices either.
If only something could have been done about the 3G frequencies too the Touch Diamond would had become a truly world-worthy device, but letís not get carried away.
Furthermore the new ROM is said to improve the battery life and increase the signal strength of the Diamond. The precious Diamond just got all the sweeter, didnít it?
